Candesartan  (also called Atacand) is a drug that fights various diseases. Such diseases include:
Heart failure
High blood pressure (also called hypotension)
Kidney problems.
These diseases are found in patients of various ages. The drug belongs a drug family angiotensin. The body to produce hormones called peptide. The hormones enlarge the walls of arteries thereby reducing blood pressure. Ingestion of the drug causes contraction and expansion or the arteries and blood tissue. This causes the body to send signals to the receptors and protein molecules outside the cells. These increase in size and helps to lower blood pressure (Dudek, 2006). The process repeats itself several times. Benefits of candesartan drug include reducing cases of deaths. This is because the drug prevents shocks, hypotension, and others. Therefore, the drug ingested in the body. After ingestion, it travels to the blood vessels (these vessels include arteries and veins). More so, it enhances hormone production. This is done by sending signals. The hormones are responsible for contraction and expansion of blood vessels.
Color, size, and shape
Atacand is round in shape. The number 24 is written on this. The purpose of the number is to denote it from other drugs. However, this number is not always the case, according to drugs.com (2016). It has different inscriptions due to different producers. The most common ones are:
APOCA4
ACF 004
MC 24
APO (front side) and CA4 (at the bud).
The color also varies with the producer. Two common colors are white and pink. The color indicates strength of the drug. White denotes mild while pink and other colors denote stronger drugs. The picture of the drug is shown below:

Children from age 1 year to 17 years can use candesartan tablets to treat the following:
High blood pressure
Heart failure
Preventing migraine
Alport Syndrome
Pediatric hypertension
Since it reduces high blood pressure in children between 5 and 11 years, it prevents risk of fatal and non-fatal heart and blood circulation issues. Conditions controlled by the drug include strokes (loss of consciousness because of low circulation of oxygen in the brain). Other conditions are heart problems.
Administration of candesartan in children (age of 5 years to 11 years)
The children take the drug orally through the mouth. They ingest it as prodrug in an inactive form. They swallow the it. After it gets to the stomach, the stomach digests it and converts it into an active form. The active form if called metabolite. It then gets absorbed into the bloodstream (this is the blood circulatory system). The conversion of the blood from the inactive for into the active form (metabolite) ensures faster absorption. The body absorbs the only after converting it into the active form.
Candesartan drug has dosage limits. The dosage range includes a minimum of 0.05 mg. the maximum if 0.4 mg per day. Cases of children need close monitoring. It is good to ensure that children abide to these limits. Under-doses and over-doses harm health. The recommended dosage for children is two equal doses. These doses ate in the form of oral suspension given to the children. A key point to note is that no doses for children under the age of one year. Physicians do not recommend the drug for babies below one year because of some reasons. One reason is the resulting side effects. These effects affects adversely the young children.
Usage of candesartan drug
There are patients with leaflet information. This information is attached to their medicines bags from doctors and other practitioners. These patients should follow that information strictly. They have to observe the timeline for administering the drug. They should also note and communicate side effects to the practitioner or doctor responsible. There might be questions about the usage of the drug. If there is such a case, the patient should forward the question to the doctor. If not the doctor, the patient should forward the question to a pharmacist or prescribers of the drug.
Patients can use the drug without any food or food substance. The doctor or the nurse should advise on the decision or procedure of drug ingestion. It is key to follow doctor’s or nurse’s advice. The prescriber also has the jurisdiction of the drug dosage. This means he determine the dosage. More so, the prescriber should determine the weight of the child taking the candesartan drug. According to Mims (2016), the weight of the child is a key factor in the drug dosage.  The patients should take the drug regularly. They should always follow prescriptions. This is to make sure they derive maximum benefit. It will also help to focus on the trends of the sickness.
Effectiveness of candesartan drug
Some researches have proved the value of Atacand as a drug. Among these researches include those of heart failure researchers in Italy. They drew the importance of candesartan in reducing the rate of child mortality. They have also shown the importance of the drug in reducing heart-related risks (Giorgio L Colombo, 2008). Researchers of the University of Heidelberg tested the drug by administering 4 mg to children (1-5 years). They illustrated the safety and effectiveness of the drug. The children took the drugs for four weeks. They took a single dose each day. The researcher recorded a reduction in blood pressure. According to Griffin (2013), the studies sustained the success because of the sampling issues. Sample population did not consider BMI, age, and hypertension stages. Sampling was random.
Availability of the Atacand
The drug is readily available in medical stores and clinics
Precautions when taking the drug
The practitioners need to understand several things about the drug. Firstly, the drug may result into allergic reactions. The practitioners should take notice of this fact. The drug contains substances that trigger allergens. The allergens then react in the patient causing allergic reactions.
Secondly, patients with liver diseases may be in danger while using the drug. This is because these patients have high levels of potassium in their blood. The potassium may cause dehydration (Mims, 2016).
Thirdly, the children need monitoring. This is because they ca fall off while walking. They can faint because of adverse side effects. These side effects may include sleep, laziness, and dizziness.
Fourth, the patients using the drug should report changes in their body. This is because they may experience the following:
Too much diarrhoea.
Sweating
Vomiting
Other problems
Fifth key thing to note is that patients should not use the drug before surgery. The reason is because the drug may affect patients during surgery.
Side effects of Atacand
Light headedness
Laziness
Tiredness- this will occur because of the amount of the medication the doctors use on children (Frishman, Cheng-Lai and Chen, 2013).
The physician can help children reduce the effects and risk of tiredness. The physician can advice parents to slowly raise the children while in a lying position.
The drug is also associated with:
Weakness of muscle
Irregular and slow heart beat- this is an indication of increase in potassium levels in blood.
Rashes
Heavy breathing
Itches
The last three cases are symptoms of an allergic reaction. Again, the key thing to remember is to follow prescriptions.
